For our August Special, we are very pleased to welcome Alex Ivanov, a leading expert in Dow Theory, one of the cornerstones of technical analysis (TA). Although the basic tenets of Dow Theory were originally developed in relation to major stock market averages, they can be profitably applied to any freely traded market. As with Richard’s Wyckoff’s foundational TA work, Dow Theory principles have stood the test of time, and work as well in today’s markets as in the early 20th century, when they were first articulated. Reading bar charts through a Dow Theory lens provides traders with powerful structural tools to enhance their ability to anticipate future price action.

Technical analysts know that reading a price chart is both an art and a science. While the scientific dimension of chart reading involves technical knowledge, the artistic aspect entails developing a “Feel” or intuition for price behavior. Acquiring a sense of “The Feel” for price requires a fundamental understanding of how to apply Dow Theory principles to price (and volume) data which, in turn, involves exposure to many illustrative examples and deliberate practice. During these three two-hour webinars, Alex will provide a wealth of case studies of Dow Theory in action and will illuminate intersections with the Wyckoff Method. These webinars are geared primarily towards individuals of intermediate experience; however, traders of all skill levels should benefit from Alex’s presentations.

Each session will begin with a review of the current outlook for the Dow Industrials (DJIA) and Transports (DJTA)

August 5 - Tape Reading: During this session, Alex will discuss the process of reading individual price bars and then focus on important bars, including Big Bars (BBs), Reversal Bars (RBs), and others. Reading individual bars is indispensable for developing a true understanding of the Story of Price and “Feel.”
- Market Outlook
- Reading individual bars (Bar-by-Bar)
- Identifying important (Significant) bars
- Bar level swings
- Chart work & examples
- Q&A
- Homework

August 12 - Determining The Trend! Without the use of properly crafted lines, determining and following the trend is an exercise in futility. But in order to draw these lines correctly, we must first understand swings and reactions.
- Market Outlook
- The trend, swings and secondary reactions
- Horizontal support and resistance lines
- Sloped support and resistance lines
- Chart value lines
- Q&A
- Homework

August 19 - Consolidations and the end of trends. After a significant advance or decline, price tends to come to a resting point where the forces of Supply and Demand develop a relative equilibrium, creating major structural formations such as Roof Tops (Head & Shoulders), Trading Ranges and other types of consolidations. In this session, Alex will discuss the most important consolidation patterns, and will briefly touch upon major improvements that Wyckoff practitioners have made to Dow Theory in the analysis of consolidations.

- Market Outlook
- Roof Tops (Head & Shoulders) patterns
- Trading ranges
- Other important consolidation patterns
- Q&A

(Time permitting: live chart work in several major markets, including gold, oil, bonds and currencies!)

**These webinars will be recorded and made available to participants on a password-protected web page for a full year after the course ends (i.e., until August 18, 2020), with an option to extend access for another year for a nominal fee.

When: August 5, 12 and 19. All sessions will be conducted from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. (PDT).

Alex Ivanov
Alex started trading in early 1999. After a frustrating start, a friend recommended William O’Neil’s book, “How To Make Money In Stocks.”  This led to Alex’s multi-year, in-depth study of technical analysis and Dow Theory, including frequent visits to the business school library at Stanford, studying the original writings of Charles Dow, and reading the works of past Dow Theorists such as William P. Hamilton, Robert Rhea, and George Schaefer.  This research led Alex to Richard Russell, author of the “Dow Theory Letters,” and under the guidance of Mr. Russell, Alex narrowed his focus to the identification of and participation in market trends. In 2010, Alex opened an investment advisory firm, but quickly realized managing 3d party investments did not suit his particular style of trading. A dedicated and passionate Dow Theorist, Alex focuses on Dow Theory when teaching, analyzing or participating in the financial markets.
